WPT Legends of Poker – Will Failla Wins

Will Failla was the chip leader at the start of the final day of action at the WPT Legends of Poker event. He took full advantage of his position and when the final hand of the event was in the books, he was the one basking in glory, a $758k top prize in his pocket. In the most significant win of his tournament career, Failla bested a starting field of 757 players.
As the final table began, Failla enjoyed the safety of his large stack. He did manage to get into a few uninspired tussles early on, dropping some chips to Jeff Vertes and Joshua Pollock. By eliminating Ahmed Owais in 6th place though, he seemed to have found his stride. Owais was the official short-stack of the final table, and he was forced by his position to take disproportionate risks early on.
Adam Aronson busted out next, after he ran his pocket 6s into Jeff Vertes’ pocket rockets. Aronson got lucky and flopped a set, but the turn and the river gave his opponent a runner-runner flush and he was done.
Ken Aldridge did away with Jeff Pollock in 4th place. Pollock put his tournament life onto the line with a 4-card flush. Aldridge had a lowly top pair when the chips went into the middle, but the turn and the river bricked out and his hand held.
With the three-handed stage reached, Failla turned on the heat massively. He became ultra aggressive, and got serious chips off both Vertes and Aldridge, before he managed to put Vertes away for good, setting up the heads-up stage. Vertes’ final hand saw him shove all-in with A,Qo against Failla’s A,Jo. The flop fell A,J,10 and the turn and the river failed to change anything.
The heads-up stage found the two remaining players nearly even in chips. Failla held the early lead, but that quickly changed. The final hand of the tournament saw Failla’s J,6 best Aldridge’s 6,4o.
