WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open – Day 1A Report

The WPT is in overdrive these days: barely has the Venice Grand Prix wrapped up, a new event is already underway. The Seminole Hard Rock Casino and Hotel in Florida is the host of the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open, Day 1A of which is already in the books.
125 players showed up for the first day 1 flight of the event, coughing up the $3.5k buy-in. Uri Kadosh finished the day with the largest stack. He had 275.5k chips bagged. He was followed by Ely Levy, who had 218.5 chips when the line was drawn. Team PokerStars pro Jason Mercier may not have finished at the top, but his story turned out to be the story of the day nonetheless. He showed up for the event 2 hours late, but managed to register and he even caught a heater during the last few levels of Day 1A, to finish with 175.5k chips, which clinched him 3rd place.
Shaun Deeb played on Day 1A of the poker tournament too and he too managed to finish in the top 10: he accumulated 112.7k chips, much to the delight of his 92-year old grandmother, who attended too. Deeb too waited till the end of the day to rake in a nice pot which eventually propelled him into the top 10.

Altogether, 40 contestants survived the day 1A attrition. Mohsin Charania was among the survivors, together with Matt Waxman and Matt Giannetti. Also advancing to Day 2 were Allen Kessler and Will Failla, who is well on his way to becoming the WPT’s Player of the Year. For all these people to advance, scores of others had to bite the dust though. Christian Harder, Andy Frankenberger, Kathy Liebert and Jonathan Little were all eliminated. Tony Dunst hit the rail as well, together with Darryll Fish and Dan O’Brien.
Day 2 will offer players the possibility to re-enter though, so we may yet see some of these guys in action.
