WPT Malta – Day 3 Report

30 players returned to action on the 3rd day of the WPT’s Malta stop and with the money bubble set for 27th place, the action was bound to sizzle from the get go.
Cecilia Pescaglini was the one who started the day with a huge chip lead.
Nesrine Kourdourli was the first victim of the day, followed to the rail by Andras Fekete. Giovanni Rizzo picked up an A,9 and decided to put his tournament life onto the line on a flop of 10,9,2 rainbow. Unfortunately for him, his solid kicker failed to save him from Christofer Williamson’s 10,9o.
No help came for Rizzo on the turn or the river and he was eliminated on the bubble. The bursting of the bubble was followed by the loosening of the action. Players started hitting the rail in droves, among them numerous professionals like Tony G (who bit the dust in 25th place), Justin Bonomo (eliminated in 26th) and Marvin Rettenmaier. Isaac Haxton was the ‘name’ pro who managed to advance the deepest of the bunch: he ended up in 12th place, Tony G fell victim to a runner-runner after he got it all in on an A,4 before the flop against Fabien Sartoris’ Q,10. The board fell A,K,6,10,Q to give Sartoris a two pair and the win.
Haxton staked his tournament life on a classic coin-flip. He had an A,K against Simon Trumper’s pocket Qs. This time, lady Luck decided to give Trumper the hand and Haxton too joined his high-profile brethren on the sidelines.
With 10 players remaining, start of the day chip leader Cecilia Pescaglini shared the lead with Tristan Clemencon. Salvatore Bianco was eliminated in 10th place and Manfred Sierke bit the dust in 9th to set up the end of the day field. By then, Tristan Clemencon had managed to clinch the chip lead. Action will continue on Day 4 with the final table.
