WPT Malta – Day 3 Report

Thus far, Jackson Genovesi has absolutely dominated the WPT’s 2012 Malta stop. He first shot to the top of the chip counts at the end of Day 1B and he hasn’t relinquished his position since. He led through Day 2 and now, at the end of Day 3, with the final table set, he is still the one with the largest stack. Besides being dominating, Genovesi was an entertaining presence at the tables too. On Day 3, he started out as the chip leader, but by the time the final table bubble loomed on the horizon, he was one of the short stacks. Then, during the last couple of levels of action, he exploded and managed to finish with 1,553,000 chips to his name. Genovesi was one of only two players to manage to crawl over the 1 million chip mark. The other player was second place man Yorane Kerignard who finished the day with 1,422,000 chips.
The money bubble was set to burst early in the day, and it was indeed shoved right out of the way within the first couple of levels. Koen Berendsen was the last player to go home without anything to show for his efforts: he shoved all-in holding an A,Ko against Ilan Boujenah’s pocket rockets. After the flop brought a rather irrelevant 3,2,2, the turn and the river fell A,K, hitting both players and eventually sending Berendsen packing in 22nd place. Following his elimination, the field breathed an almost audible sigh of relief as all those sitting at the tables could see a minimum of €5.2k guaranteed.
Boujenah wouldn’t get to see the end of the day either: he was eliminated in 11th place, picking up €8.4k for his efforts.
Tony G bit the dust immediately after Boujenah, making the top 10 in yet another
poker tournament this year.
Alessio Isaia made the final table, together with Sampo Ryynanen and Zeljko Krizan.
