WPT Marrakech – Day 1B report

Apparently, some of the world’s biggest names have few problems showing up at two extremely distant points on the planet almost on the same day. It is sometimes as if these people had doubles to fill in for them in various live poker events in various corners of the earth. How else can one explain the presence of Bertrand Grospellier, David Benyamine and Liz Lieu at the WPT's Marrakech Main Event?
85 players showed up for the second day one flight, and 31 of these guys made it through to day two.
Unfortunately, none of these name players survived to the end of the day. David Benyamine was the first one to go, when his A,K fell to an opponent's pocket jacks, having come up on the wrong end of a classic coin-flip. That delivered a crushing blow to the French Pro and soon, he was eliminated. Once again Bertand Grospellier showed that he was the master of the short stack. He nursed a less than adequate stack along all day long, and he made quite a few questionable plays along the way, but eventually had to concede defeat too when his A,7 lost out against an opponent’s K,Q on the river.
Liz Lieu, Chilipoker’s representative, staked her tournament life on a lowly 6c, 8c, on a flop which contained two more clubs, looking to fill out her flush. Unfortunately, the opponent who called her already had top pair and neither the turn nor the river came to her aid.

Other name pros fared much better though. Guillaume De La Gorce played well all day and kept adding to his stack every step of the way. He eventually ended up with a stack of 128,600 chips. On one occasion, he busted a bluff from Ahmed Debabeche to chip up significantly.
Sebastian Homann managed to amass a stack of 327,900 chips on day 1A to clinch the chip lead going into day 2.
