WPT Marrakech – day 2 report

The second day of the WPT's Marrakech main event saw a combined field of 82 day 1a and day 1b survivors return to the poker tables of the Casino de Marrakech. Day two of the Chilipoker sponsored event had a clear goal: participants were supposed to play down to the final nine which was exactly what they accomplished over 10 levels of action. Sebastian Homann was the one who started the day in possession of the largest stack of chips . He played well and the end of the day found him still in the top position. Fellow German Dominik Nitsche finished in 2nd place, less than 100,000 chips behind Homann.
What was truly interesting about Nitsche’s day two run, was the way he managed to rebound from the brink of extinction, to shoot right to the top afterwards. At one point the German was down to about three big blinds, but he caught a couple of timely double ups, punching and clawing his way back into contention.
Guillaume de la Gorce had a run-in with short stack status too, but he too managed to stave off elimination and eventually finished the day on a decent stack.
Homann’s run to the top wasn't a smooth affair either. The German was never really threatened with elimination, but he did lose the chip lead several times throughout the day. He eventually bounced back during the very last level of action.
Nitsche suddenly found himself in possession of a 6,000 chips stack with the blinds at 1,000/2,000, having missed a huge draw. He doubled up on the very next hand and then again on the hand after that. Gathering momentum as a snowball rolling downhill, he ended up obliterating all traces of resistance in his path, shooting to a 1,479,000 chip stack in the end.
The money bubble was obviously also reached on day two. Victor Gerasymenko was the bubble boy.
