Day 1B of the WPT’s Mazagan Main Event saw 80 players belly up to the tables of the Mazagan Beach and Golf Resort in Morocco. The final numbers for the
poker tournament were 146 players, and a prize-pool of $577.3k. Guillaume Darcourt was the one who finished the previous day with the largest stack. The chip leader of the second day 1 flight, Clement Beauvois, managed to surpass him though, clinching the overall lead with a stack of 166.8k. Despite their large stacks, none of the two above mentioned players are guaranteed anything yet in the event: only the top 18 finishers will be paid. The eventual winner will take home a rather respectable top prize of $168.2k. As with every other WPT Main Event, included in the top prize there’s also a $25k seat to the WPT’s 2013 Championship event scheduled to take place at the Bellagio.
Other players who finished Day 1B with large stacks were Alain Roy, Bruno Fitoussi and Sebastien Compte. Fitoussi had played on Day 1A too, but he found the rail relatively early and was forced to re-buy. This time, he obviously did a lot better. He scored a few eliminations too to go with his large stack. One of his victims was Hafid Kinany Alaoui, whom he dropped with a set of 3s. Davidi Kitai was also in the mix, and he was on his second buy-in too. The two players locked horns at one point in the tournament, and Fitoussi ended up taking down a massive pot on a straight vs lower straight, perfect hand match-up.
Kara Scott played on Day 1B too, but she failed to advance. Giovanni Rizzo and Thibaud Guenegou were also eliminated.
81 players will return on Day 2.
