WPT Mazagan – Day 3 Report

The 3rd day of the WPT’s Mazagan Main Event saw 25 players return to play down to a final table, which is pretty much what they managed to accomplish. Davidi Kitai had about 220k chips in his stack at the beginning of the day, but by the time the final table had been reached, he had a stack of 1,940,000. His massive lead will certainly offer him the chance to win the event hands-down on Day 4, thus scoring a WPT win which may carry some pretty special significance for him. Kitai has been known to have accomplished poker’s Triple Crown a while back, taking down titles in WSOP, WPT and EPT events. His WPT win however has been a little bit of a lackluster one, since it came in the WPT’s celebrity invitational and thus it has always had its legitimacy somewhat questioned. A win in the Mazagan event would once and for all clear the tab for this poker pro.
With only 18 players getting paid in the
poker tournament, the field had to play down to the money bubble first. 7 players were sent to the rail with nothing to show for their efforts besides the proverbial wooden spoon. Pascal Labiche, Leonard Truche, Nicolas Dervaux and Gaelle Baumann were all among those sent home empty-handed.
Victor Choupeaux became the official bubble-boy of the event, after his A,3 lost out to Kitai’s A,K in what would turn out to be his final hand in the event. That hand was also responsible for handing Kitai the chip lead.
Having a large stack to back him up, Kitai went on a rampage. He sent David Chekroun and Bruno Louy to the rail to add more chips to his stack.
Paul Tedeschi became the final table bubble-boy.
