WPT Merit Cyprus Classic – Day 1B Report

The second day 1 flight of the WPT’s Merit Cyprus Classic wrapped up after 10 massive 1-hour levels. 164 players coughed up the $4.4k buy-in on Day 1B, and by the end of the day, only 65 were still standing. The provisional chip lead went to David ‘Chino’ Rheem, who managed to amass 291.5k chips. The lead was hotly contested through the day, so Rheem’s feat was by no means an easy one to pull. Then again, Rheem isn’t your everyday poker player either: he made the final table of the 2008
WSOP Main Event, he won the WPT’s Doyle Brunson Five Diamond Poker Classic and he won the first Main Event of the Epic Poker League.
Along with a good dose of skill, Rheem brought a powerful backer to the table in Lady Luck. He once managed to crack an opponent’s pocket Js with pocket 10s. He then took his pocket 10s again and cracked another player’s pocket rockets.
As expected, Michael Mizrachi was among the Day 1B starters. The Grinder got right down to business as soon as the action kicked off, and soon, he was terrorizing the opposition left and right. Before he cooled down a bit, he managed to accumulate a stack of 120k chips. He later dropped some of them, but he still managed to finish with an above-average stack of 54.3k chips.
Giuseppe Pantaleo had an excellent day as well. He finished among the leaders with 191.3k chips to his name. Husu Sincar did well too: he managed to amass 247.5k chips. Sam Al Sayed was among the large-stacks as well.
Other players who managed to slip past the day 1B hurdle were Kelly Kim, Dominik Nitsche and Nicolas Chouity.
Together with the 67 survivors from Day 1A, the Day 1B players will form a 132-strong starting field for Day 2 of the event.
