WPT Merit Cyprus Classic – Day 2 Report

The second day of the WPT’s Merit Cyprus Classic saw 131 players return to the tables. David ‘Chino’ Rheem had the largest stack at the beginning of the hostilities and he was seated right next to some of the other large stacks like Husnu Sincar.
The much-expected showdown between the two players never took place though as both of them seemed content to just move along living and letting other players live. The early confrontations took place between Nicholas Chouity and Martin Finger. Chouity was the one who drew the shorter straw, hitting the rail after he ran head-first into his opponent’s top set.
Michael Mizrachi didn’t fare much better either. He busted out early. His brother, Robert, did a much better job of navigating the treacherous waters of Day 2, and he eventually earned a pass to Day 3 on a more than decent stack no less: his 365k chips were enough to land him in 3rd place overall.
For all the early getting along, Rheem couldn’t tolerate the presence of another large stack in his proximity, so he eventually did lock horns with Sincar. The result of it was that his half million stack took a nasty hit, falling to 320k. He wasn’t much bothered by the unfortunate turn of events though. He laid back and rolled right through the day, finishing with 261k chips, still enough for 4th place.
Manig Loeser made it past the day too, together with his fellow countrymen Dominik Nitsche and Marvin Rettenmaier.
Erik Cajelais had a good day too. For a while, he even held the chip lead, but eventually, after a failed bluff, he had to settle for second place with a stack of 371.5k chips.
Players who didn’t make it to day 3 of the
poker tournament were: Kelly Kim, Toni Judet and Tuan Lee. A total of 5 levels went into the day, at the end of which Sam El Sayed emerged with the largest stack.
