WPT Merit Cyprus Classic – Marvin Rettenmaier Wins

PartyPoker’s own Marvin Rettenmaier has a definite knack for taking down WPT titles. The German won the WPT World Championship at the Bellagio in May and now he followed that up with a victory in the WPT’s Merit Cyprus Classic. Rettenmaier’s win was a truly dominant display of poker prowess. 6 players returned to the tables on the final day of action, and before the end of the day, all of them were sent to the rail by the German.

Kyril Radzivonau was the first victim of the final table. He started the home stretch of the tournament with a short stack and soon he found himself compelled to push all-in with a J,10. He got called by Rettemaier, who had pocket Qs. The flop was extremely interesting: it gave Radzivonau a pair of 10s, but it also gave his opponent a set of Qs, pretty much sealing the deal right there. After the first elimination of the day, things came to a standstill: it took the field over 3 hours to eject the next victim. Joseph El Khoury had reached short-stack status too by the time he pushed all-in with an A,10. He was called by Rettenmaier who had an A,Q and soon he was heading to the payout booth to pick up his $65.7k share of the action.
Victor Paraschiv was the next victim. His 4th place was worth $87.6k. Rettenmaier’s winning hand was a pair of Ks this time around. Ran Azor followed Paraschiv to the rail. He committed the last of his chips on pocket 7s and he was called by Rettenmaier with Q,9o. This elimination left Rettenmaier heads-up with Artur Vosdkanyan, holding a 4-1 chip lead. The odds as well as the raw skill were stacked sky-high in the German’s favor, who just couldn’t miss. The final hand of the poker tournament was just the second one of the heads-up stage and it saw Rettenmaier’s Jd, 9d best Voskanyan’s A,10o.
