WPT Montreal – Day 3 Report

45 players returned to the tables on the third day of the WPT’s Montreal Main Event with one goal in mind: to make it to the final table. After about 6 levels of grueling green-felt battles, the goal was indeed reached. Only 6 players saw the end of the day. Sylvain Siebert was the one who finished with the largest stack: he built a stack of 8.85 million chips to secure pole position for the final stretch of the event. Jeff Gross played well too and he just missed out on the leader’s spot, behind a stack of 8.65 million chips.
As soon as the action kicked off, scores of short stacks felt compelled to make that do or die move. What resulted was a flurry of early eliminations, which claimed the tournament lives of Dan Smith (the current GPI PoY leader) and Cory Bath. Pascal LeFrancois was one of the short-stacks too, but instead of busting out, he managed an early double-up, which kept him in the running. He went on to make the final table, with 6.06 million chips to his name. The hand which saved him from the nearly inevitable saw his pocket Ks best an opponent’s pocket 9s.
As the field played down to the final two tables, with the goal for the day ever closer on the horizon, several other “name” players busted out of the
poker tournament. Mike McDonald was one of these players. He was followed to the rail by Timothy Adams and Jason Koon.
Koon pushed his last chips into the middle on a K,7o and he got called by a player with A,2o. Adams on the other hand had a K,J and he got busted by Jonathan Roy’s pocket Qs. The final table bubble-boy was Serge Cantin.
