WPT Open Jacksonville – Day 1 Report

The two day 1 flights of the WPT’s latest Jacksonville stop are in the books and the numbers are more than encouraging thus far: on Day 1A, 146 players showed up for the poker tournament, tossing their $3.5k buy-ins into the middle. They were joined by 205 more players on Day 1B, and thus the prize-pool was set to $1,123,208, which means that the eventual winner will walk away with a $321.5k prize.
The player who had the largest stack of chips bagged at the end of the day was Chad Deberry, who managed to accrue 209.4k. He clinched the lead at the end of the day by quite a margin: second place man Aaron Lucas Sr. only had 170.7k chips. Michael Linster will start day 2 third in chips, with 158.5k to his name.
Brian Hawkins, Bolivar Palacios and Chris Klodnicki made the top 10 as well, together with Ebony Kenney and Anthony Spinella.

Ebony Kenney had a great run towards the end of the day, when she went from 30k chips to around 160k by knocking out two opponents and adding to her stack left and right. Kenney’s last substantial pot of the night saw her make a pair of Qs with a K kicker, against an opponent’s pair of Qs with a 10 kicker. The said opponent eliminated, Kenney made another substantial addition to her stack.
Chris Klodnicki didn’t find the going that easy at all. In fact, he needed to buy in no fewer than three times to finally catch a break. He spent a total of $10.5k on buy-ins but he finally got what he wanted: he advanced to day 2.
A total of 8 levels of action went into the second day 1 flight, at the end of which 90 players emerged with tickets for Day 2.
