WPT Prague – Day 1A Report

The first Day 1flight of the WPT’s Prague Main Event saw 231 players belly up to the tables of the Corinthia Casino in Prague. When the dust settled after the day’s green felt battles, 93 players were still standing, local player Jan Bendik leading them into day 2 with 209.3k stack.
Those who bit the dust may yet return to the felt though: they’ll be allowed to re-buy on the second day 1 flight.
Despite the fact that the WPT’s Pragues stop isn’t usually as popular as the EPT events there, there were plenty of high profile players in action on day 1A. Melanie Weisner and Andy Frankenberger were there, together with Toby Lewis. Unfortunately, none of the above said players managed to advance. Lewis picked up pocket Ks and put his tournament life onto the line with them against some player’s pocket rockets. Weisner was bounced by Brian Piccioli. Frankenberger busted almost the same way Lewis did: he had pocket Qs and he ran them into Vojtek Ruzicka’s pocket Ks. That hand left Frankenberger’s stack in shambles, and he was forced to shove all-in on a pair of 5s to try to claw his way back. An opponent called him with A,Qo and he was history.
Online poker player Chris Moorman didn’t fare a lot better either. He must’ve picked up a reasonable starting hand in late position and he made a raise which was flat-called by Marty Smith, who unbeknownst to everyone, was sitting on pocket rockets. A third player stuck his nose into the beeswax by re-raising, a move which prompted Moorman to push all-in. Making the call was a no brainer for Smith and sure enough, once the re-raiser was out of the way, his pocket rockets didn’t give any kind of a chance to Moorman’s Q,8o.
Some of the participating notables did better though. Eoghan O’Dea managed to advance, together with Brynn Kenney, Dermot Blain and Vitaly Lunkin.
