WPT Prague – Julian Thomas Wins

The WPT’ Prague Main Event has finally played down to a winner on Saturday. The player who walked away with the title and the $283.8k top prize was Julian Thomas, who bested start of the day chip leader Vasili Firsau heads-up.
The final day of the poker tournament saw 6 players return to the official final table. The one with the biggest stack was Vasili Firsau from Belarus. The first victim of the final table was Valeri Savov, who had a nasty perfect hand curb his tournament life.
He got it all-in preflop, holding pocket Ks against Giantaras Simaitis’ pocket rockets. The board fell a bunch of blanks and Simaitis’ pocket rockets held for the pot. Savov picked up $52.2k for his 6th place.
The next player to bite the dust was Ognjen Secularac. Secularac tried a bluff on the river of a board of 8d,6h,Qd,8s, Ah, but unfortunately for him, Firsau had him right where he wanted him. Firsau made the call and tabled 8h,7h for the three of a kind. Secularac’s reward was $64.6k.

Gintaras Simaitis couldn’t put the chips he’d picked up from Savov to good use. He was the one bounced next, in 4th place. His demise came at the hands of the eventual winner, after he pushed all-in with an A,8o against the latter’s pocket Qs.
The next elimination was that of Andrey Shatilov, and it came at the end of a massive 3-way pot. Thomas, Firsau and Shatilov – basically the entire surviving field – were involved in the hand. Thomas had the best odds: he had pocket rockets against Firsau’s pocket Js and Shatilov’s Qh,10h. The board fell a bunch of cards which hit no one and Shatilov was out.
That same hand also gave Thomas a massive chip lead: he had 8.6 million chips against Firsau’s 530k. The heads-up bout didn’t last long this way.
