Late Sunday, the WPT’s Prague Main Event has finally arrived to a conclusion: the player who walked away with the honors and the top prize was Marcin Wydrowski, who bested Alexandr Lahov heads-up for the win.
Bodo Sbrzesny started the final table with the largest stack and he was indeed hell-bent on putting his chips to good use. He had no hand in the first elimination of the day, which came at the end of a confrontation between Tony Chang and Alin Grasu. Grasu flopped a top pair and there were two 7s on the board too. Chang on the other hand flopped a set and thus the prefect hand trap was sprung for Grasu. The 4h fell on the turn prompting Grasu to shove all-in. Chang made the call immediately and the 2h on the river sealed the deal in his favor.
Sbrzesny swung into action next, sending Michael Gagliano to the rail. Both players shoved all-in preflop, as Gagliano held a dominating A,A against Sbrzesny’s pocket Qs. A Q on the flop turned the tables on Gagliano though and nothing else came on the board to save him.
The next victim was Tony Chang, sent to the rail by Lakhov. Chang was the first player in the
poker tournament to take down more than €100k.
Wydrowski took a massive pot off Sbrzesny to set him up for elimination. Lakhov then moved in for the kill and he sent the start of the day chip leader packing, thus setting up the heads-up stage of the event.
Wydrowski had a massive chip-lead when the heads-up action commenced and he took full advantage of his position: he hammered home his advantage within one level. The final hand of the event saw his pocket 7s triumph over his opponent’s 7s, 6s.
