WPT Venice – Day 3 Report

The 3rd day of the WPT’s Venice stop saw 40 players return to the tables. Wanny Piazza had the largest stack at the beginning of the day. When the day was called, only 15 players remained. Marvin Rettenmaier emerged as the new chip leader.
Rettenmaier wasn’t exactly a push-over at the beginning of the day either: he was second in chips. He took advantage of his position and he soon found himself in the lead.
It was during level 14 that he completed a massive addition to his stack. He took on Antonio Massi, in a hand which ended up seeing both of them push all-in on the river. The board showed K, 9, 4h, 8h, Kh and Massi had Ks, 3s for the trips. Rettenmaier had him covered though with Ah, Jh and the pot was his. That hand propelled his stack close to the 500k mark.

The money bubble was set to 27th place, and as it approached, the action slowed down quite a bit. Eventually, Nicola Ricciardelli’s elimination in 28th place burst the bubble, landing all the other survivors in the money.
Ricciardelli first scored a welcome double-up against Taylor von Kriegenbergh, but he lost his entire stack on the very next hand to Alexander Dovzhenko, whose pocket 10s won the coin-flip against his A,K, ending his poker tournament life. Dario Alioto was the first player to bite the dust and get to take home some money.
He was followed to the payout queue by Riccardo Marchini and Taylor von Kriegenbergh.
Arnaud Mattern was the one responsible for Kriegenbergh’s elimination: his pocket Qs got the better of Kriegenbergh’s A,Qo. Ronnie Bardah fared much better: he managed to survive the day after a couple of close calls. He eventually finished with a stack of 257k chips.
Roberto Romanello survived the day as well, albeit he’ll return for the final day of action on a short-stack. Steve O’Dwyer made the cut as well.
