WPT Venice Grand Prix – Day 2 Report

Day 2 of the WPT’s Venice Grand Prix saw the survivors of the two day 1 flights return to the tables of the Casino di Venezia. The objective for the day was a pretty clear one: make it past the money-bubble set for 21st place. The official prize-pool of the poker tournament was set to $643k, of which $180k would end up in the possession of the eventual winner.
13 massive levels of action went into Day 2, at the end of which Frenchman Ludovic Lacay emerged with the largest stack. The money bubble was not reached though: a total of 36 players survived the day, postponing the clearing of the major hurdle for day three.

Lacay earned most of his chips by keeping things extremely simple: whenever he committed, he did so with conviction and with aggression, so he did in fact force several of his opponents to fold after they put a significant amount of chips into the pot.
The beginning of the day saw a spectacular run by John Eames which ended up sending three players to the rail. Although he chipped up nicely during his early Day 2 run, Eames failed to parlay his early momentum into anything significant and he ended up on the rail as well. The one who eliminated him was none other than Mike Sexton. Another higher-profile victim of the day was Grzegorz Wyraz, who was bounced by Raffaele Castro. Wyraz had pocket 9s against Castro’s K,J for the textbook coin-flip. The very first card to hit the board was a K though and Wyraz headed to the rail for good.
He was joined on the sidelines by Dario Alioto, Andrey Pateychuk and Alessio Isaia.
Martin Staszko and Max Pescatori were both among the survivors though.
