WPT Venice Grand Prix – Day 4 Report

Only 18 players remained of the initial starting field of 173 for the beginning of the 4th day of the WPT’s Venice Grand Prix. The objective was to play down to the 6-handed final table, an objective which was indeed accomplished before the final whistle. The player who finished the day with the largest stack was Marcello Montagner, who accumulated 1,805,000 chips. Mike Sexton also made the final stretch of the poker tournament. He finished with a more modest stack of 1,079,000 chips. Erion Islamay, one of the players who held the chip lead at one point in the event, made the final table as well. Rocco Palumbo will return on the final day of the poker tournament too.
Most of Sexton’s chips came during level 22 from Islamay. The hand which saw Sexton double up, hitting the 1.3 million chip mark, began as a three-handed one. Robert Begni was also involved, but he got out of the way after the flop. It was a wise choice, because Sexton ended up making a flush against Islamay’s two pair. While Begni finished the day with 1.2 million chips, Islamay’s stack plummeted to 460k, so he will begin the final table as one of the short-stacks.

The first victim of the day was Angel Recchia who locked horns with Erion Islamay early on. Recchia had an A,Qo, and even though Islamay only had an A,7o, he made a straight to score the first elimination of the day.
Ivan Gabrieli followed him to the rail. Antonio Zito and Lauri Pesonen weren’t far behind either. Kara Scott bit the dust in 13th place, collecting $9.2k for her efforts.
Ludovic Lacay made it all the way to 12th before succumbing to the pressure. Martin Staszko was eliminated in 10th.
