WPT World Championship $100k Super High Roller – Final Table Reached

As the action rolled towards a conclusion in the WPT’s World Championship $25k Main Event, players were busy in the $100k Super High Roller too, working their way towards the final stretch of that
poker tournament. The final table was indeed reached on day 2, and James Courtney finished with the largest stack. Only 17 players bellied up to the tables of the event on Day 1, but registration remained open on Day 2 in the hopes of drawing a few more buy-ins into the prize-pool. In the end, a total of 21 buy-ins were registered, given that Jean-Noel Thorel,
PokerStars pro Jason Mercier, Cary Katz and Erik Seidel all decided to put another buy-in onto the line. None of these players made the 6-handed final table though, so their additional efforts turned out to be in vain after all.
Mercier bit the dust in 11th place, and due to the small number of initial participants, that meant he went home empty-handed. He pushed his last chips into the middle holding an 8c, 6c on a flop of 8,7,3. Thorel made the call with pocket Qs and his hand prevailed, sending Mercier packing.
Thorel couldn’t put the chips he took from Mercier to good use though: he was bounced in 9th place, followed to the rail by Erik Seidel in 8th. Seidel’s elimination set the televised final table bubble.
Yevgeniy Timishenko bowed out in 7th, sent packing by James Courtney.
Timoshenko was the one who initiated the showdown pushing all-in with his pocket 3s. Courtney made the call with pocket Ks though and it was obvious that Timoshenko didn’t stand much of a chance. The board was all bricks and Timoshenko was out.
That hand gave Courtney the lead over Joseph Cheong. Only the top 3 places are paid.
