WPT World Championship – Day 3 Report

116 players returned to action on Monday, on the 3rd day of the WPT’s World Championship event. When the day ended, only 52 of them were still in contention. Sam El Sayed was the one who finished the day with the largest stack, followed by Nenad Medic. El Sayed’s push came towards the end of the day when he managed to chip up massively at Andrew Lichtenberger’s expense.
Steven Kelly played pretty well too, finishing in the top echelon right behind Medic. As a matter of fact, the story of the day was pretty much Kelly and Medic’s battle for the top spot. Of the two players, Kelly was the first one to shoot past the 1 million chip mark. He took down a huge pot from John Turner, making him fold on the river.
Medic followed him over the 1 million chip mark a few hands later, at the expense of Randall Yasny.

Not everyone had a field day like the above said three players, and given the pro-heavy nature of the field, the list of casualties was an impressive one indeed. Daniel Negreanu was among the day 3 victims. He made a top pair on the river of a hand and shoved all-in on it, only to find that Ashton Griffin had the same pair, with a better kicker no less. Shawn Buchannan was bounced too, together with Davidi Kitai and the Poker Brat, Phil Hellmuth.

Ali Tekintamgac, an alleged cheater disqualified from a high profile live poker tournament for shady practices, was the talk of the tournament thus far. He was confronted by several players during the first two days of the event, but his cheating ways behind him, he pushed on unfazed and he managed to make it past the day 3 hurdle too. Abe Mosseri, one of the previous chip leaders is still in the books as well. Other notables to return to the tables on day 4 are Sam Trickett, Justin Smith and David Williams.
