Galen Hall began the last day of the WPT World Championship’s Main Event with the largest stack, but in the end it was Scott Seiver who mustered enough stamina and prowess to close all the other competitors out, grabbing the $1.6 million first-place prize.
6 players returned to action after a day’s hiatus, all looking to make it as far on the leader board as possible. It took 45 hands for the first elimination to come by. Galen Hall locked horns with Justin Young in the hand which resulted in the drawing of first blood at the final table. Young picked up an A,Jo and decided to stake his tournament life on it. Hall had A,Ko though and he made the call. Nothing of any use to either player fell on the board, and Young walked away with a $225k prize for his 6th place.
The next elimination came by on the very next hand. The victim: Tony Gargano. Gargano got all his chips into the middle with Kh, Jh against Seiver’s Ad, Kd. Seiver caught another A on the flop of a board which had a bunch of bricks otherwise, that didn’t help Gargano in any way.
It took a further 12 hands for the next player to bite the dust. Roger Teska fell after his A,10 was outrun by Hall’s measly J,9.
Three handed play raged on for a while, until start of the day chip leader Galen Hall was eliminated by Scott Seiver. The flop gave Hall a 4-card diamond flush, but it also gave Seiver a set of Ks which held up through the turn and the river.
Thanks to Hall’s elimination, Seiver began the heads-up stage of the action with a massive chip lead. He capitalized on his lead and was able to bounce his opponent 41-hands into the final stretch of the poker tournament. Seiver made a straight in the final hand to put Farzad Bonyadi away for good.
