WPT World Poker Finals – Jeff Forrest wins

The Foxwoods Resort Casino exploded with WPT action on Tuesday as the final table of the World Poker Finals got rolling. It sure turned out to be an interesting affair, one that Lady Luck must not have wanted to end, because people just didn’t seem to be able to find the rail, despite sometimes doing their very best to get there. There were plenty of all-ins from the get go, but those whose tournament lives were on the line, seemed to land the right cards time and time again. This is how the final table action got pushed past the 200 mark and it only ended on Wednesday, with Jeff Forrest holding up the trophy and smiling for the cameras.
Forrest survived an initial starting field of 242 players and he bested Dave Inselberg heads-up for the win. The final table was a serious hurdle that Forrest needed to overcome on his way to the top. The lineup included names like Thomas Marchese, Nikolai Yakovlenko, Keven Stammen and Mohsin Charania.
Charania was the first one to bite the dust at the 6-handed final table. Thomas Marchese’s A,6 got the better of his 3s,6s.
Stammen locked horns with Inselberg to hit the rail in 5th place, when his A,10 fell to Inselberg’s A,Q after the latter hit a set on the river.
Yakovlenko was the next victim, eliminated after he got it all-in on pocket rockets against Inselberg. Inselberg had K,8 and hit a two pair right on the flop for the win.
Thomas Marchese’s elimination in 3rd place set up the heads-up stage. Marchese had A,K which proved to be no match for Forrest’s K,6 which came out on top having made a lowly pair of 6s with the board.
The final hand of the
poker tournament saw Forrest’s pocket Qs hit a set on the river for the win. Forrest picked up $548,752 for his efforts.
