The 12th edition of the World Poker Tour is set to kick off an August 12, just in time to give players something to think about and something to be excited about as the
2013 WSOP buzz slowly dies off.
The scene of the action will be the Merit Crystal Cove Casino and Resort in North Cyprus. The event is scheduled to feature 35 different tournaments, culminating in a Main Event which features a buy-in of $4.4k. A total of $3 million are scheduled to be given away in guaranteed prizes by the 35 events.
The Main Event takes place on August 16 and it offers a guaranteed prize-pool of $1 million. Obviously, it will be all over the news when it kicks off. It will feature 30k starting stacks, allowing the skill factor to weigh heavily in its outcome. Early bust-outs will also have a re-entry option.
While all the attention will be focused on the Main Event, there will be other noteworthy tournaments taking place as well: on Sunday, August 18, the $2.2k Big Stack challenge will kick off, featuring a $100k guarantee. High profile players are always interested in high rollers and the Merit Cyprus Classic will indeed give them the chance to do battle in one such event: on Monday, August 19, the $10k WPT High Roller gets going, offering a guaranteed prize-pool of $400k.
The venue where the action will take place is one offering a full holiday package, with lots of poker action included of course. Besides the 35 tournaments, there will be round the clock cash games as well.
In addition to the Merit Classic, Cyprus will also play host to
PartyPoker’s Big Game, a 12-hour long cash game, featuring some of the biggest names in the poker world.
