WSOP 2010 day 15 – Baker and Buchman pick up the gold

Day 15 of the 2010 WSOP marked 2 weeks since the opening whistle of the Series by crowning two more WSOP Champions. David Baker and Eric Buchman both walked away with the gold. Buchman earned his stripes in the $2,000 Limit Holdem event. Event #18 awarded the winner a top prize of $2.5 million, for which Buchman, a 2009 November Nine member, had to best an initial starting field of 476 players.
Once the final table was reached, Buchman’s dominance became more and more obvious. He started the final stretch of the poker tournament in the chip lead, and his stride was never broken: He eliminated Matt Grapenthien and William Jensen and he took on Bren Courson heads-up.
The other bracelet winner of the day came out of the $10k 2-7 Draw Lowball World Championship event. David Baker was the one who triumphed in this event, surviving a star-studded field to deny several name pros their first 2010 WSOP bracelet. Just to give you a measure of the level of the field represented in this event: the final group Baker had to work his way through, included Daniel Negreanu, John Juanda, Erik Seidel, Andy Bloch and Eric Coutier.

He was also the one responsible for Daniel Negreanu’s exit in 8th place. For all his accomplishments, Baker “only” picked up $294,314.

In event #20, the $1,500 PL Omaha one, Nenad Medic took full advantage of the status offered by his large-stack. He dominated the action all through the day and finished with a monster stack, which gave him an almost 1 million chips advantage over his nearest rival.

Despite the fact that he’d started the day as one of the short-stacks, Sorel Mizzi finished with the chip lead at the end of the day in the $1,500 7-Card Stud event. Team PokerStars’ Pat Pezzin and Jon Turner also finished near the top.
Events #22 and #23 also got rolling on day 15 of the Series. The Ladies $1,000 NL Holdem Championship event attracted a starting field of over 1,000 players, including some of the biggest names in women’s professional poker.
Event #23, the $2,500 short handed Limit Holdem event, saw 384 players belly up to the tables. At the end of the first day of action, only 100 players were left in contention.
