WSOP 2010 day 30 – Gavin Smith enters winners’ circle

Day 30 of the 2010 Series awarded one bracelet only, but that was more than enough to make Gavin Smith a very happy man. Smith, who had been considered one of the best poker players around never to earn a WSOP bracelet to prove it, finally broke the curse. Event $44, the $2,500 Mixed Holdem was the scene of the historic deed, and Smith and Danny Hannawa were the actors involved in the closing scene.
The heads-up stage of the poker tournament saw the two protagonists belly up to the task on rather equal footings. Thus, the battle lasted quite a bit before Smith was able to turn the flow his way for good. Forced to shove all-in on a 10,8o, Hannawa looked down the barrel of Smith’s dominating Ah, Qh in the final hand. The flop gave Smith a pair of Aces and he never looked back.

Event #45, the $1,500 NL Holdem one, saw the initial starting field of over 3,100 players whittle down to 35 before the end of the day. Sam Trickett was the one who managed to amass the largest stack of chips. Dutch Boyd will also be back for what will probably turn out to be the last day of the poker tournament. PokerStars’ Thomas Bichon survived as well, albeit on a shorter stack that may not guarantee him extended playing time in the final stretch.

Event #46, the $5,000 Omaha Hi/Lo split 8 or better event, saw a select starting field belly up to its tables. Day 30 of the Series saw that field reduced to 21 players. The chip leader going into the final stretch is Sergey Altbregin. David Ulliot is in second place, followed by Perry Green. Erik Seidel and Andy Black will be back too.

Event #47, the $1,000 NL Holdem event, got going on Day 30. Its Day 1A saw 1,759 players belly up to the tables. Due to the fast pace of the action, of all those guys only 257 were left standing when the dust settled.
Antonio Esfandiari will be back for Day 2 and so will Scott Montgomery. Chau Giang, Tom Dwan and Michael Mizrachi fell by the side.

435 players showed up for event #48, the $2,500 Mixed Event. 192 players survived the first day of action, among them Daniel Negreanu, Mike Matusow, PokerStars’ Alex Kravchenko, Jennifer Harman, Justin Bonomo and Chris Ferguson.

Hi Erica~Just wandering arnoud and see your blog~For this hand:1) Your calculation on the odds are not right - I am assuming you are talking about the odds before River card so the cards that could beat you are: 1. 8 clubs (excluding the K clubs you have, 2 clubs he holds and 2 clubs on the flop)to make the flush 2. 6 or J to make the straight (6 cards, you already include 6 and J of the clubs in 1. already) 3. 9 to make 3 of a kind (2 cards)Total: 16 cardsI think what you are doing is right, but I woul
