WSOP 2010 Day 34 – 3 bracelets awarded

No fewer than 3 players picked up their WSOP 2010 gold on day 34 of the Series, forever etching their names into poker history.
After 4 days of play instead of the planned 3, event #47, the $1,000 NL Holdem special has finally reached a conclusion. Having bested an initial starting field of 3,127 players, Shawn Busse was the one who finally took down the top prize and pocketed the bracelet. Owen Crowe had the honor of going heads-up with Busse in the final stretch of the poker tournament. Crowe held his own for a while, but he made a bad move and got crippled. On a board of 8h,5h,5x, he decided to call Busse’s all-in, holding Jh, 9h. Crowe knew Busse had pocket rockets, and sure enough, his opponent tabled two aces for the lead. Crowe was obviously looking for a flush, but neither the turn nor the river filled his draw and he was left with only 250k chips.
The end came on the very next hand. Crowe moved all-in with a 5h,3h and Busse was pretty much compelled to call. He had an A,4o. The board brought a bunch of bricks and Busse’s Ace kicker carried him to victory in one of the hardest-fought events of the 2010 WSOP.

Event #49, the $1,500 NL Holdem event was responsible for the second bracelet of the day. Michael Linn, Barry Greenstein’s nephew, took the title in this event, defeating Taylor Larkin heads-up for the win.
The final hand of the poker tournament saw Larkin’s Q,Jo go up against Linn’s A,2o. Linn hit a pair of 2s on a board which refused to help Larkin and cruised to the top.

The 3rd and final champion of the day emerged from the tables of the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha event. Chance Kornuth picked up this bracelet, besting Kevin Boudreau heads-up. The heads-up battle was something to behold indeed. At one point, Boudreau’s 9-high straight lost a huge pot to Kornuth’s 10-high straight, and at another point, both players made the same boat to split the pot.

Event #51 played down to the final 12 players on Day 34. John Eaton will start the final day of action with the largest stack.

Event #52, the $25k short handed NL Holdem Championship got rolling on Day 34 too. 78 players survived the first day of action, with Jason Sommerville leading the survivors into day 2.

The $1,500 NL Holdem Shootout event kicked off too. Greg Mueller, the reigning champion of the event showed up to defend his title, but he was eliminated during the early going. 64 players advanced to Day 2, among them Terrence Chan, Marcel Luske and Pat Pezzin.
