WSOP 2010 Day 8 – Mizrachi in position to win another one

Day 8 of the 2010 WSOP saw several interesting events unfold. The first one was the $1,500 NL Holdem event, which saw 25 players return to action on day 3. Phil Hellmuth was among these players, looking to win his 12th bracelet and to break out of the rut he’s been stuck in tournaments-wise for quite a while now.
Unfortunately for the
UB pro, this wasn’t going to be his day either. When the dust settled, it was Pascal LeFrancois who stood with all the chips stacked in front of him, eyes on the prize, and bracelet in hand. Hellmuth slowly faded away through the day, until he made an unsuccessful final stand with Qd,9d.
LeFrancois made his final dash during the last two tables. There was a stretch of time in the
poker tournament in which he became responsible for the elimination of now fewer than 6 players. As soon as the final table was reached though, he laid back and allowed the other guys to knock each-other out. When there were only 3 players left, he swung into action again as part of his well executed battle-plan and eliminated Kevin Howe in 3rd.
Max Steinberg was the player he would go heads-up against for the title. The battle between the two lasted for about 45 minutes. The final hand saw LaFrancois’ pair of Js triumph over Steinberg’s pair of 4s.
Event #9, the $1,500 PL Holdem event saw Steve Chanthabouasy dart to the top of the provisional leader board. James Dempsey found himself in second place, as the final table of the event was set.
Michael Mizrachi continued his excellent run in the $10,000 7-Card Stud World Championship event, which seemed headed to a conclusion similar to that of the $50k Players’ Championship event.
Vladimir Schmelev, the Russian he took on heads-up in that event is currently the chip leader in this one with 12 players remaining. Mizrachi is sitting in 3rd. The $10k 7-Card Stud World Championship event had the money bubble set for 17th place. Several “name” players failed in their bids to reach the money, among them Daniel Negreanu, Scotty Nguyen, Phil Ivey and Tony G.
Events #11 and #12 got going on Day 8 as well. Event #11, the $1,500
NL Holdem one, attracted a starting field of 2,563 players. Event #12, the $1,500 Limit Holdem one, saw 625 players belly up to the tables.
