WSOP 2013 – Corey Harrison Wins Event #24

The third day of event #24, the $1.5k
NL Holdem one, saw 17 players return to action. There were surprisingly few “name” players involved in the final stretch of this poker tournament, and sure enough, the winner, who walked away with the title and the $432.4k top prize was a first timer: Corey Harrison defeated Daniel Cascado heads-up to get his hands on the goods.
Every one of the 17 players who bellied up to the tables at the beginning of the day was well-stacked, but despite that, it only took the field around an hour and a half to play down to the official 9-handed final table.
The momentum gained was so strong that the pace of the action didn’t slow at the final table either. It only took 18 hands for the first player to bite the dust: Robert Brewer was bounced by Mohsin Charania and left the
poker tournament in 9th place, with a $31.7k prize.
Gareth Teatum followed him to the rail, followed in turn by Zimnan Ziyard and Mohsin Charania. The elimination of these two players left the remaining field without a “name” competitor to root for. Charania left the tournament in style: at the receiving end of a really nasty bad beat: he had a two pair made on the flop and Salvatore Dicarlo proceeded to make a set on the river to knock him out.
Gregory Josifovski and Paul Spitzberg were the next two players to head to the rail. Spitzberg was the first player to shoot past the $100k mark prize-wise. The elimination of Salvatore Dicarlo in 3rd place set up the heads-up stage of the tournament.
Harrison and Cascado traded punched heads-up for about two hours before the winner was decided.
