WSOP APAC Event #1 – Day 2 Report

The second day of the WSOP APAC’s first event at the Crown Casino in Melbourne saw 144 players return to the tables. After no fewer than 3 day 1 flights, during which players got several opportunities to build their stacks, day 2 was about the moment of truth. Those eliminated on Day 2 would not get the chance to return to the tables.
Antoine Saout was the player who started the day with a comfortable chip lead. Dan Kelly was at the top of the pops in the beginning of the day as well. Other “name” players who returned to the action were Phil Hellmuth, Eugene Katchalov and Barry Greenstein.
The early action on day 2 was all about the money-bubble. Set for 90th place, only 54 players needed to go for the money to be reached. When the bubble burst, it burst in style: two players were sent home on the bubble with nothing to show for their efforts: one of them was Melanie Weisner’s victim. Weisner sent this player to the rail after she made a flush against his top pair.
Luke Edwards bit the dust too a couple of moments later, his J,10x no match for Ash Gupta’s pocket rockets. Following his elimination, everyone still at the tables could breathe a huge sigh of relief, having landed in the money.

In the wake of the money bubble, the pace of eliminations sped up considerably. It was during this stretch that several of the notables headed to the rail. Mike Watson was among them: he ended up picking up AUD$3.6k for his 44th place. Jackie Glazier did better, finishing 36th for a little over $4.3k.
Barry Greenstein was eliminated after the bubble as well.
Phil Hellmuth made a deep run: he was bounced in 20th place.
