WSOP APAC Event #4 – Aaron Lim Wins

The Crown Casino in Melbourne saw the 4th event of the 2013 WSOP APAC wrap up with local player Aaron Lim’s victory. The interesting thing about the event was that it was the very first one to award a bracelet to an Australian player in Australia. Lim has been on something of a roll lately: he has won the APPT’s Seoul Main event about a month ago, taking home the $111k top prize.
Lim bested Andy Lee heads-up this time, to take home the AUD$233.8k prize and the rather priceless gold bracelet. Thus far, the WSOP APAC has been dominated by Americans despite Lim’s victory: with his exception, all the other bracelets ended up with US players: Collopy, Piccioli and Phil Ivey.

Seven players returned to action on the last day of the poker tournament. The first victim of the final table was Billy Seri who put his tournament life onto the line with a K,7o from the hijack position. Lim made the call though with a J,3o. The flop has already delivered two more 3s onto the table, so Lim’s move was indeed the right one. No help came on the turn or the river for Seri and he was bounced.
The next player to bite the dust was Sam Higgs. He got his last chips into the middle holding an A,Qo. Jan Suchanek made the call with an A,Jo. The flop gave Suchanek the lead and eventually the pot as well. Brendon Rubie was eliminated in 4th place. The first player to pick up a 6-figure prize was Jan Suchanek, whose 3rd place was worth AUD$103.7k.
At the start of the heads-up stage of the event, Andy Lee had a slight chip lead, but he couldn’t take advantage of it. The last hand of the tournament saw Lim’s Kh, 5h best Lee’s A,Qo.
