WSOP APAC Event #4 – Day 1 Report

The first day of the 4th event of the WSOP APAC, the $5k NL Holdem 6-max event, saw a starting field of 170 players belly up to the tables. Although the first day went into the books as planned, the final number of participants is still unknown, given that registration will remain open on Day 2 too.
The player to finish the day with the largest stack was Ben Wilinofsky, who built a pile of about 160.4k chips. Other notables made the top ranks as well: local players Jonathan Karamalikis and Sam Higgins finished with monster stacks as well. Karamalikis had 149.3k chips bagged, while Higgins finished with 151.5k to his name.
Karamalikis’ presence at the top was a pleasant surprise for the local fans, given that he had finished runner-up in event #1 a few days ago.

Karamalikis was seated at the same table with fellow countrywoman Jackie Glazier. Jim Collopy was the winner of event #2, and he barely managed to register for the tournament, but he came through eventually. He managed to take down at least one major pot, thus securing his presence at the tables on Day 2.
Brendon Rubie will definitely join Collopy on Day 2. He finished with 66.2k chips. Other “name” players who will return to action are Bertrand Grospellier (the Frenchman finished Day 1 with 40.4k chips) and Jean-Robert Bellande who’s managed to keep his bracelet hopes alive as well. Bellande finished with a decent-size stack too, despite the fact that he too was playing at Karamalikis’ table.
Jackie Glazier failed to advance. Jeffrey Lisandro and Joe Hachem joined her on the rail.
Eugene Katchalov, Dan Shak, James Obst and Barry Greenstein were among those eliminated too. Sam Trickett and Jason Koon hit the sidelines as well.
