WSOP APAC Main Event – Day 3 Report

Day 3 of the WSOP APAC’s Main Event was to be an extremely interesting one: with the money bubble set for 41st place and with 94 players returning to the tables, the early part of the day would be a mad dash to the bubble. Sure enough, the money bubble burst and by the time the final whistle was blown, only 15 players remained in contention. Russel Thomas of 2012 October Nine fame, may have clinched the chip lead going into what will probably be the final day of the poker tournament, but all the eyes were on PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu who finished Day 3 7th in chips. Antonio Esfandiari, the winner of the biggest ever live poker tournament, the Big One for One Drop, finished 6th, with a little over 1 million chips to his name.
The chip leader had 1.67 million chips bagged at the end of the day. Benny Spindler finished runner-up with 1.5 million chips.

Scores of pros were eliminated during the early Day 3 going, never getting a chance to do battle for some money. Dan Shak was among these players, together with Jim Collopy, Jonathan Duhamel and Barry Greenstein.
Antonio Efandiari isn’t the player to be intimidated by the money bubble. He shoved all-in twice on the bubble and managed to get away with it both times. Not only that but in the end – as said above – he finished within the top 6, and he managed to burst the bubble by sending Rupert Elder to the rail in 41st place.
The two players got their chips all-in at the end of a preflop raising war. From the get-go, Elder’s situation appeared dire, as he tabled pocket Qs against Esfandiari’s pocket Ks. That hand left Elder crippled, and he shoved all-in on the next hand as well. Esfandiari called again and his pocket 3s bested Elder’s K,10o for the bust.
