WSOP-C Biloxi – Travis Lutes wins

Travis Lutes survived three days of poker tournament action in Biloxi, Mississippi, to emerge victorious in the
WSOP-C’s Biloxi Main Event. 270 players registered for the tournament, some of them circuit regulars, others representing the local poker scene. Of the 270 starters, only 9 made it to the final day. The prize-pool that the entrants had generated was enough to give the winner a $95,253 cut of the action.
The final table got off to a fast start as short stacks were pressured into making do or die moves early. John Holley wasn’t about to waste any time and he ended up going all-in on the very first hand of day 3. He’d picked up Ah,3h and he did try to intimidate everyone into folding, but Farid Nasserazad hung around with A,8. Sure enough 2 8s hit the board right on the flop and Holley was done.
Steve Marshall was the next victim, his K,8o no match for Yair Alon’s K,Jo. Alon didn’t settle for Marshall’s elimination. He was responsible for the next victim too. Jerry Monroe picked up A,9o and got it all-in against Yair’s A,K. Needless to say, Monroe found himself walking towards the rail in no time too.
Robert Gunter fell victim to a pair of 9s he picked up. He shoved all-in on them and got called by Bob Talbot, who had K,K in his pocket. Yair Alon looked like he was going to make it far in the
poker tournament during the early going, but his time came too, when he ran his A,7o into Travis Lutes’ A,Ko. Bob Talbot committed the apparent mistake of shoving all-in on pocket Js against Jason Cluxton’s pocket rockets, but it proved to be the right move after all, as the board gave him a straight.
Talbot’s double-up didn’t turn out to be a ticket to the heads-up stage. The heads-up action lasted for about 5 hours, as the eventual winner, Lutes, had a 2-1 chip handicap to overcome.
