WSOP-C Caesars Palace – Day 2 Report

The second day of the WSOP-C’s Caesars Palace Main Event saw the surviving field convene under the same roof for the first time. After a tough day’s action, only 15 players were left in contention, with Jeff Fielder in the lead behind a stack of 2.23 million chips. Fielder, who’s currently in the best position to go all the way in this poker tournament, is definitely not a stranger to WSOP-C action. He won the Circuit’s Choctaw Main Event and last season, he finished 5th in this same event.
Fielder had a solid Day 2 and was already on his way to clinching the top spot before the final hand of the day, which saw him eliminate Gavin Smith. The one responsible for igniting the action in the said hand was Janelle Jacobson (who by the way survived, finishing the day with a little over 1 million chips). Smith pushed all-in in response and Fielder decided to tag along. Jacobson got out of the way to see Smith table an Ad, 6d against Fielder’s Kd, Jd. The flop brought another J, giving Fielder the lead. Neither the turn nor the river changed anything and Smith was eliminated.

While Fielder’s Day 2 run was indeed an impressive accomplishment, the highlight of the day was the bursting of the money bubble. The one responsible for putting this major landmark behind the field was Christine Arpon, who busted an opponent in 82nd place.
After the bubble, the pace of the action picked up, causing quite a number of “name” competitors to bite the dust. Dan O’Brien and Scott Clements were among those eliminated during this stage, together with Erick Lindgren and Steve Gross.
Fabio Coppola had an excellent day too: he finished second with 2,066,000 chips to his name.
