WSOP-C Choctaw – Day 1 Report

The WSOP-C’s Choctaw Main Event saw 574 players belly up to the tables on its second day 1 flight, bringing the overall number of participants to 1,140, which means the event turned out the be the third largest one of the WSOP-C ever. The player who finished the second day 1 flight with the largest stack was Jonathan Bakhshian, who had 460k chips bagged. His stack wasn’t enough to top that of day 1A chip leader Drazen Ilich’s though. Ilich will thus lead the field into day 2, followed by John Land in second place. Bakhshian will only start the second day of the event in 3rd place.
17 levels of play went into the day, at the end of which 99 players were left standing. That makes a total of 163 players to return on day 2 and with the money bubble set for 117th place, the action is certain to be as intense as possible leading down to the money-bubble.

With the final number of participants set, the math regarding the event became quite clear as well: min-cash will be $2.8k. The prize-pool hit the $1.71 million mark, which means that the winner of the poker tournament will take home $312k.
Besides Bakhshian, several other players registered great runs on Day 1B: Hien Nguyen and Mike Davis both managed to chip up late in the day to make the top 10. Kunal Patel on the other hand took a more gradual approach to the problem and chipped up little-by-little through the day.
Patel eventually finished with 236.5k chips, keeping several players honest and making a couple of lucky calls here and there as well. While some thrived, others failed to make ends meet. Justin Kruger and Will Souther were both among the eliminated.
