The second day of the third largest
WSOP-C event ever, the Series’ Choctaw Durant Main Event, saw 163 players return to the tables. Day 2 marked the first time that all those with still a chance for winning the title convened under the same roof. 11 levels of action went into the day, at the end of which there were only 15 players left standing. Jeff Fielder was the one who managed to amass the largest stack: he finished with 3.2 million chips to his name.
With the money-bubble was set for 117th place, the early Day 2 action was a rather tight affair. Despite their best efforts to stave off elimination, 46 players bit the dust out of the money. Among them were Richard Lee, Michael Swimelar and Shawn Rice.
Of all the unfortunate money-less finishers, Lee was struck by the worst luck: he was the official bubble-boy of the
poker tournament. Day 1A chip leader Drazen Ilich pushed all-in holding an A,6o. Lee had a Q,Jo and he decided to make the call. The board did nothing to help Lee and he busted in 118th place, picking up the dubious honors.
As usual, with the money-bubble out of the way, play loosened up quite a bit and that resulted in a flurry of eliminations. Hien Nguyen and Jody Rummel were both eliminated during this stage of the action. TJ Cloutier, the Poker Hall of Famer renowned for his gambling problems, found the rail as well. His final hand saw his pocket 6s fall to Jeff Fielder’s pocket 9s. Shorty after his elimination, Cloutier was joined on the rail by Layne Flack. Flack’s A,Jo fell to Mario Silvestri’s pocket Qs.
Silvestri himself was bounced later, in 48th place, picking up $5.1k for his efforts.
