WSOP-C Hammond – Day 2 report

Due to the extraordinary attrition on day 1, day 2 of the WSOP-C’s Hammond, Indiana stop saw only 162 players return to the green felt. With the money bubble set for 90th place, it was clear from the onset that day 2 would mark an important milestone in the poker tournament. Sure enough, the money bubble burst, and Ryan Julius walked away with the proverbial wooden spoon, eliminated as the bubble boy by Richard Rockwood. Julius picked up a couple of 9s and decided to close his eyes and take a dive. Unfortunately for him, Rockwood looked him up with the dreaded A,Ko. Things turned really sour for Julius on the turn when a K landed, giving his adversary a pair of Ks and turning him into bubble boy.
The bursting of the bubble loosened the action up a little and a steady trickle of eliminated players soon began hitting the rail. Kathy Leiebert and Matt Brady were among those who made it into the money but failed to sail deeper.
Kevin Calenzo, a final table participant in the Council Bluffs main event and the runner-up in the Southern Indiana main event failed to make another WSOP-C final table. He did pull through, all the way to 21st place, but it was there he ran out of steam, walking away with 10 National Championship points.
Kurt Jewell was the one who managed to amass the largest stack of chips at the end of Day 2. He accumulated 3.1 million chips. He played well all day and never once slipped up on his way to the top of the provisional chip leader board. He is not the only one to move on to day 3 on a large stack though. Brian Devonshire and William Reynolds will be there on larger than 1 million chip stacks too. Edwin Choi finished 2nd with 2.4 million chips.
