WSOP-C Hammond – Day 3 - Jewell wins

16 players bellied up to the green felt on the third and final day of the
WSOP-C’s Hammond main event. Despite the low number of remaining participants, everyone involved knew better than to expect a swift conclusion to the
poker tournament. Sure enough, the action kicked off at 2 PM and the winner didn’t emerge till 4:15AM. Kurt Jewell was the one who had his arm raised in victory after the marathon, taking home $242k, a championship ring, as well as a seat in the National Championship.
The final 10-handed table was set with the elimination of Kevin Ammerman. Though he had the chip lead at that stage, Jewell was not responsible for the setting of the official 9-handed final table. Edwin Choi took that task upon himself, bouncing Matthew Shepsky in 10th place. Shepsky had a set against Choi’s straight.
Choi was on a roll when he bounced Casey Hayes next. Daniel Cohen was the next victim, his Ah,Kh no good against Jared Kenworthy’s pocket rockets.
Bryan Devonshire, the winner of last season’s Rincon event was the next one to be eliminated. He picked up pocket Ks and deemed his starting hand strong enough to call Choi’s all-in. Choi had 8,2o, but with Lady Luck firmly planted by his side, he barely broke a sweat flopping a two pair and eventually knocking Devonshire out.
Will Souther had been nursing a short-stack for quite a while and eventually his time came. He was bounced by Choi when he ran his A,Jo into Choi’s pocket Ks.
Nick Jivkov was bounced 5th and Choi, the scourge of the final table, found the rail in 4th place, courtesy of William Reynolds.
Reynolds was the next one to be eliminated, followed by Jared Kenworthy, whose second place finish was worth $150k.
