WSOP-C Harvey’s Lake Tahoe - day 2 report

The original starting field of 246 registrants was reduced to 51 on day one of the
WSOP-C’s Lake Tahoe main event. No name players made it to day two, which meant that one of the amateurs would be guaranteed to grab the title. The goal for the second day was nothing more and nothing less than reaching the final nine. At the end of the day, that goal was indeed accomplished, with Michael Traylor leading the pack in possession of a stack of 1,843,000 chips. Due to the overall makeup of a second day field, play crossed over into the unconventional several times. Over betting was no rare sight of the tables, and neither was cold calling. With the money bubble set to 27th place, the first hurdle for the 51 returnees was to make it into the money. It took about four hours to work down to 27 and things went fairly smoothly too. No hand-to-hand play was necessary as one elimination quickly followed in the wake of the other. The dubious honors of bubble-boy befell Reymundo Ozuna, who thus became the last player who got off the table empty-handed.
Ozuna’s last stand saw him run his pocket sevens into Ned Mantua’s trips. The next elimination came only a few moments later, but after seeing his pocket eights fall to an opponent’s Q,6o, Jeff Lennon still landed in the money.
Traylor’s domination started after the supper break. He got lucky with his pocket eights against third-place man Arthur Molloy’s pocket Qs, by landing a two outer to send the fellow large stack to the rail.
Tom Masinter was hot on the tails of his Casino Champion title, and he could have secured it too, had he made the final table. It wasn't meant to be though. He became the final table bubble boy when Traylor’s pocket eights ran his A,Qs off the green felt.
