9 players showed up on the 4th day of the WSOP-C’s Western Regional Championship, to battle it out for the top prize and the title. It took Ali Eslami a massive 10 hours to best the other players and to remain the last one standing with all of the 2.94 million chips stacked up in front of him.
Miller Dao was the first one to be eliminated from the final table. He came into the day as one of the short-stacks and was thus under pressure to get something going from the beginning. He picked up an A,6 and shoved all-in, only to be called by Dylan Wilkerson who had pocket Js. The board brought only bricks and first blood had been drawn at the final table. Dao walked away with a $24,235 prize, not a bad haul at all considering the fact that he had won his tournament entry through an $80 satellite. Having made it this far earned him another
WSOP-C seat in the National Championship in May.
Given the meager number of chips he collected on Dao’s elimination, Wilkerson remained the short-stack at the table. Pressured into shoving all-in on an A,Ko by the circumstances, Wilkerson got called by Dana Kellstrom’s pocket Qs and as no help came on the flop for either hand, he found himself heading to the rail in 8th place.
It took another hour and half for the next player to be bounced. Dwyte Pilgrim got his last chips into the middle on an Ah, 3h on a board of Ax, Kx, 2h, 10h, that gave him top pair and a flush draw. Ali Eslami had Ks, 2s for a two pair and the 7s on the river sealed the deal in his favor.
Kellstom was eliminated next, followed by David Peters, bounced courtesy of Eslami. Steve Brecher and DJ Blanchard followed, setting up the heads-up stage between Eslami and Tim West. The final hand of the event saw Eslami’s pocket rockets triumph over West’s A,Qo.
