The final table of the
WSOP’s Rincon circuit event saw Dwyte Pilgrim claw back from the edge of elimination by hitting a 3 outer first and then working his way up the chip count all the way to the Championship ring and the $125,775 prize.
Day one of the event, taking place at Harrah’s Rincon, left only 16 players standing, thus, although it was originally planned to last 3 days, the event was shortened to 2. Day 2 action started out at 2 tables. Taylor Bell became the first casualty of the day, followed to the rail by Rick Reavis, both of them bounced by Charles Williams. Before one knew it, the field had narrowed down to 10 players and thus the final table had been set.
Dwyte Pilgrim – the eventual winner – began the final table action on a rather sturdy stack of 140,000 chips. The chip leader was Charles Williams with 570,000 chips, and the short stack was John Farrell with merely 80,000 chips.
Matt Hyman was the first casualty of the final table. He shoved all-in on his A,2, but got three callers who ganged up on him and checked it down all the way. In the end, Hyman did score a pair of deuces but Dwyte Pilgrim made a pair of kings and Hyman’s day was over.
John Farrell headed to the rail in 9th place, courtesy of Chris Tryba who hit a set of 10s on the river to crack his pocket Kings.
Jonathan McGowan finished in 8th, followed to the rail by Pogos Simityan in 7th, who was bounced by Chris Tryba.
Josh Prager finished 5th.
Tao Thiem flopped the nut straight and went all-in against Dwyte Pilgrim’s flush draw which filled up on the turn, sending Thiem to the rail Broadway straight and all.
Former WSOP-C champ Chris Tryba found the rail in 4th, followed by Charles Williams in 3rd, both bounced by the same Dwyte Pilgrim who was beginning to look unstoppable.
The heads-up affair between Pilgrim and Esther Taylor was a short one due to the overwhelming chip superiority Pilgrim had built up. Pilgrim secured the win with a pair of 2s he hit on the river of the last hand, and took his WSOP-C victory record to 2 this season.
