WSOP-C River Rock – Day 1C Report

386 players showed up on Sunday at the River Rock Casino for the third Day 1 flight of the WSOP-C’s first ever Canadian stop. After a full day of green felt battles, exactly 100 of them earned the right to return on the second day of the poker tournament. Lillian Chan finished Day 1C with the largest stack. She had quite a run indeed, racking up 228.6k chips, enough to land her in 4th place overall, behind Day 1A and Day 1B chip leaders Norman Overdijk and Jingjing Liu, and John Cracic.
With the last Day 1 flight in the bag, the official numbers for the event were set: a total of 1,032 players paid out the buy-in, creating a prize-pool of $1,548,000. The money bubble has been set for 108th place and the eventual winner of the event will collect $286,382.

Chan played well through the day. At one point, she made a marginal decision shoving all-in against an opponent with pocket Qs. The opponent turned out to have pocket Js and thus Chan scored a major knock-out.
Sean Giesbrecht had a great day 1C too. He played on day 1A and failed to advance. He bought in again on day 1B, and busted out yet again. He finally found the way forward on day 1C though, finishing with a large stack.
There were scores of other notables playing on Day 1C too. Several of them navigated the treacherous waters of the event successfully. Roberto D’Amato was among them: he finished with a very healthy stack of 210k chips.
Calvin Anderson and Ki Nam finished with large stacks too. Matt Affleck, Shawn Buchannan and Gavin Smith all returned on Day 1c for a last hurrah, but they were all eliminated.
