WSOP-C River Rock – Day 2 Report

246 players returned to the tables of the WSOP-C’s River Rock Main Event, looking to secure a seat for Day 3. The survivors represented the yield of no fewer than 3 Day 1 flights, some of which saw the same players re-register time and time again, only to fail to make it through in the end.
The stakes for the survivors were high indeed: the winner of the River Rock Main Event would make history in several ways: he/she would become the winner of the largest ever WSOP-C event and the largest poker tournament ever held in Canada.
The attrition on Day 2 was high. Of all those starters, only 30 made it to the end of the day with chips to their names. Sonny Sekhon finished with the largest stack, having amassed more than 1.7 million chips.
While Sekhon did indeed finish on top, several other players had great days and built massive stacks. Ryan Biermann finished second with 1.57 million chips and David Pecaski finished 3rd with 1.45 million.

The first objective of the day was the money bubble of course. Set for 109th place, the bubble proved to be impossible to reach for several of the pros who were still in the books when the action commenced. Noah Vaillancort, Braden Hall and Matt Jarvis were all eliminated before the bubble.
Greg Mueller was also among the early victims of the day. He ran his pocket Qs into an opponent’s 4c, 2c on a flop of 9,2,2, in his final hand.
The official bubble-boy of the event was Jean Leblond, who bit the dust in 109th place, when Isaac Baron’s K,Q made short work of his pocket Qs. He was rewarded with various consolation prizes, including a free night at the River Rock Casino.
