WSOP-C River Rock – John Crncic Wins

The WSOP-C’s River Rock Main Event has wrapped up on Wednesday, setting the record for the largest ever live poker tournament held in Canada. The event was also the first ever WSOP-C event held in Canada, so it broke the mold in several ways.
A total of 1,032 players registered for the event, but on Wednesday, there was only one man left standing: John Crncic took down a bevy of prizes and rewards for his efforts. He got a seat in the WSOP National Championship, a gold WSOP-C ring and a $286.3k prize to top it all off.
Sonny Sekhon was the player who started the final dash with the largest stack. The first victim of the final table was Glenn Sullivan, who had held on to his short-stack for about an hour before yielding to the pressure and hitting the rail.
He was followed to the payout queue by Michael Collins. Collins picked up $35.4k for his 8th place.
Tyler St. Clair pushed all-in with a rather subpar 7,4o, only to be called by Sekhon, who had an A,7o. Needless to say, St. Clair bit the dust in 7th place.

Calvin Anderson took a nasty bad beat to finish the event in 6th place. He got his chips into the middle with pocket 10s and proceeded to hit a set on the flop. His opponent had A,7 though and hit a runner-runner straight to send him to the rail. Sonny Sekhon’s last stand was much less of a heart-break: he had his last chips in on a 7,2o and unsurprisingly, he lost, dropping out in 5th.
After Mal Hagan and Justin Ciolfitto were eliminated as well, it all came down to Crncic and Ryan Biermann. The last hand saw Biermann’s A,Qo fall to Crncic’s Ad,8d.
