WSOP.com Overtakes Ultimate Poker Traffic-wise

It was predictable, and now it has happened indeed: WSOP.com is officially the most popular real money online poker site in the US, its traffic numbers having soared past those of its sole Nevada-based competitor, Ultimate Poker. Earlier this week, traffic numbers were released according to which, the 7-day average for WSOP.com rose to 130 players, while the same number dipped to 120 for Ultimate Poker.
Indeed, the brand power behind WSOP.com is hard to compete against and given that the November Nine Showdown of the
WSOP Main Event has just generated a lot of additional buzz, that may be truer now than ever, but is there more to the site’s success? Apparently, some players who spend time at both sites think so. Several such players were polled by specialists and they all seemed to point to the fact that WSOP.com’s software was superior to Ultimate Poker’s. Ultimate Poker are apparently struggling with some pretty serious issues, as their software crashes several times a day. That obviously drives high stakes grinders away from the tables, and therefore the overall action suffers. On the other hand, no problems of this sort have been reported in regards to WSOP.com’s software.
WSOP.com also seem more active on the promotions-front. They have launched an Action Club Loyalty Program, which rewards its members with higher WSOP point multipliers. In this respect, the polled players still sided with Ultimate Poker’s loyalty program, but the Action Club Loyalty system has certainly put a dent in UP’s dominance of this vert.
Another reason for WSOP.com’s success may come from its added money tournaments. The Online Championships just wrapped up at the site, and during the series, $500k has been doled out in added money. It is however quite questionable that WSOP.com can keep this practice up for the long-run, as it’s not exactly a financially sound model for the site to follow tournaments-wise.
