The WSOP 2009 is about to hit the airwaves; ESPN coverage starts on July 28th, making Tuesday nights poker night.
Just when you thought it was all over, it's only just beginning. The WSOP may have reached its near end in real time, but for the general television watching public, all the fun and excitement of the series is just about to get started.
ESPN will be airing highlight of the series beginning on July 28th with a 2 hour episode beginning at 8 pm EST, and a fine one it will be too. The subject of the inaugural episode will be the enormous $40k 40th Anniversary tournament. A showcase event of which commentator Lon McEachern said "really brought the cream to the crop". It will be however the Main Event that will receive the most attention in the coverage schedule. Following complaints last year that not enough of the Main Event was aired, this will be well and truly rectified in the 2009 series coverage with a total of 24 Main Event hours due to be shown. Jamie Horowitz, the coordinating producer for ESPN commented that "we're doing a record number of hours this year – 24 hours- followed by the two hour final table on Nov 10".
The Main Event coverage will start airing on August 18th, with each Main Event day of play receiving 2 hours of coverage.
In addition to the Main Event and the $40k 40th Anniversary tournament, there will also be coverage of the WSOP Champions Invitational aired on Tuesday August 4th, and the Ante up for Africa event on august 11th.
