WSOP-E Event #2 – Day 1B Report

The third day of the World Series of Poker Europe, currently taking place in France, saw the second day 1 flight of the €1.1k NL Holdem Re-entry event go into the books. The player who finished Day 1B with the largest stack was Germany’s Kilian Kramer, who had 102.4k chips bagged, thus clinching the overall chip lead going into Day 2 of the poker tournament. Kramer has in fact built almost twice as big a stack as the Day 1A chip leader, Niels Herrgodts, who had 55k chips bagged. Needless to say, in order to take down that many chips, Kramer had his work cut out for him: he busted several players on his way to the top, among them Ben Nicolas, late in the day. The two got their chips into the middle with Nicolas’ pocket deuces looking pretty shabby against Kramer’s pocket Js. Indeed, the Js held up and Nicolas was done.

The name player to draw the most attention on Day 1B was Full Tilt Poker’s Jonathan Karamalikis, who finished with a healthy stack as well. At one point in the day, Karamalikis pulled off a major feat, by forcing an opponent to fold a boat to him. The board was reading K,8,A,K and the player in question had pocket 8s. He must’ve put Karamalikis on an A,K at least, because he folded, to the amazement of his opponent and everyone else watching.
In the end, Karamalikis had 81.3k chips bagged.
Chino Rheem was among the survivors as well: he finished with 62.6k chips to his name. Others who will return on Day 2 are Barry Greenstein and Scott Clements, although they’ll be doing so on much shallower stacks.
The second and last day 1 flight effectively cleared the numbers-game: the 659 initial registrants created a prize-pool of €632.6k, of which the winner’s share will be €129.7k.
