WSOP National Championship – Day 2 Report

The second day of the WSOP’s National Championship event in New Orleans saw the field play right down to the final table. Given the exclusive nature of the
poker tournament, it didn’t come a as a surprise that the final table turned out to be a rather pro-heavy one. In the end, the player who had the largest stack bagged was Brock Parker, a two-time
WSOP bracelet winner. Parker finished with 825k chips to his name. Jeremy Ausmus made the final table as well, behind a decent-size stack no less: he had 799k chips bagged. Joe Tehan will be back on day 3 too, for the final showdown, but he will start the day as the official short-stack with only 117k chips.
The start of the second day of action saw 62 players return to the tables of Harrah’s New Orleans, looking to first battle their way into the money. At that stage,
PokerStars’ Jason Mercier was in competition too. Unfortunately for him though, he busted out before the money-bubble was reached. His efforts weren’t completely wasted though: he had struck a last longer bet with Jason Koon before the event and he at least managed to win that one: Koon dropped a bunch of chips on the very first hand of the day, when he ran his hand into Austin Buchanan’s pocket rockets. That hand pretty much sealed his fate and he was sent to the rail shortly thereafter.
Kyle Julius and Brent Hanks also busted before Mercier. Valentin Vornicu was the one who started the day with the largest stack, but he failed to sneak into the money. He busted out with nothing to show for his efforts, together with Jeff Gross, Joe Kuether and Dominik Nitsche. Steve Hess was the official bubble-boy of the tournament.
