WSOP National Championship – Jonathan Hilton Wins

Jonathan Hilton is the first ever recipient of a WSOP bracelet awarded in the US, in a location other than Las Vegas. Hilton bested a starting field of 127 especially invited/thoroughly vetted players, on his way to grabbing what may well turn out to be one of the more prestigious WSOP bracelets awarded this year. The final table of the poker tournament featured a pretty impressive bunch of players indeed. The one Hilton bested heads-up over the home stretch of the poker tournament was Max Steinberg. Brock Parker, Joe Tehan and Jeremy Ausmus made deep runs in the event as well.

The 8-handed final table was a truly representative sample of the different types of players who had registered for the event. There was Jeremy Ausmus, Joe Tehan, Max Steinberg and Brock Parker, who are all well-known players and who had all bought in for $10k. Jonathan Hilton, Robert Panitch and Nicolas Vaca-Rondon were actual qualifiers, while Tim Bowman had won the Harrah’s Cherokee Main Event of the Series.
Parker was the one who held the most chips at the beginning of the final table action.
At the beginning of the day, players didn’t waste any time pushing their stacks into the middle, however the first few all-ins all resulted in double-ups for the short stacks, so the first elimination took about an hour to come by. Jeremy Ausmus was the first victim: he picked up $38.5k for his 8th place. He was followed to the rail by Nicolas Vaca-Rondon and Joe Tehan. Tim Bowman and Brock Parker hit the rail next, followed in turn by Robert Panitch, whose elimination in 3rd place set up the heads-up stage of the event. The final hand of the tournament saw Hilton’s Ks, 10s go up against Steinberg’s 9,7o. Hilton had two pair against Steinberg’s straight draw which failed to get there.
